Education for Sustainability is an amazing ongoing journey of learning, discovery, and practice. For many centuries, humanity has been developing systems that are contrary to the principles on which our natural eco-systems are based. The negative impact of these human made systems on our planet’s climate systems, natural biodiversity, and vital eco-system services are now wide spread and tangible.

Fortunately, there is a growing awareness and motivation around the world that transformational change and collaborative actions for sustainability are urgent. Motivational energy for change and action are wonderful, yet insufficient for creating the positive impacts that we all desire. Most important, first of all, is that we learn how to act and behave differently by understanding how we ended up creating a major sustainability crisis when we were focused on improving our quality of life through economic and political progress. Education for Sustainability is, thus, more important than ever before and not just for students at school! This applies to everybody and especially those who hold positions of power and influence in our society, politically, economically, socially, and culturally.

Through this section of the platform you will learn about the people and organisations that have been supporting and are driving this change for sustainability through the EFS Programme in Mauritius, and elsewhere. We hope that this will inspire you to also invest in your own ecological literacy development and catalyse education for sustainability in your country, region, community, sector, organization, network and family. If you are already working in the field of EfS and would like to collaborate with us, or share with us about your work, please get in touch with us via our contact page
